Level 2 and Level 3 Readers for five year old.

Hello Everyone

Yesterday we were at B&N with our homeschool friends. I was suggesting reading to my five-year-old when he says, "Mom Diego doesn't look like me ANDDDD he is not a super hero." I love this child's directness. Apparently, my young man now is ready for some good guys and bad guys or explorers of color. Any suggestions.... right now he is tired of Henry and Mudge, we have all the Shanna books and Thomas the Train. He still prefers pictures on every page even if it is a paragraph underneath.

(Somewhere the ancestors were dancing to see eight Black children all but two under 10 sitting quietly reading on the storytime stage at B&N.)

Out of the mouth of babes! Have you tried Little Bill? He's not really a super hero, but does look like him. I've seen a couple Bill leveled readers in the library here and since my son has started reading, I was going to check them out. My twins love Shanna and Thomas as well.

Scholastic sells a line of beginning readers for black children called Just For You. They come in a variety of titles in three levels, and my son really loved them.

We go to this great warehouse sale for Scholastic every year where everything is half price, and that's where I bought mine. I'll start another thread about it and where you can find one in your area.
