What is your best homeschooling advice for newbie home educators? Or, if you are a newbie homeschooler, what would you most like to learn about homeschooling?
Don't compare your school with everyone else's school. Avoid trying to find the perfect curriculum. Pick one and stick with it.
About Me:
I am a SAHM. My husband is an enginner. We live in Pflugerville, Texas. We are foster parents in the process of preparing our home to receive a couple of more children.
We attend Calvary Chapel of Austin in Pflugerville, Texas. We love game nights.
I have post-polio syndrome which makes life challenging at times. But God is faithful and up for every challenge!!
Hi Alex

Hey, I've just created a multicultural homeschooling group called Austin Multicultural Homeschoolers. I've started it for children of color (of all ethnicities - African American, Latino, Asian, Indian, etc. - and religions). If you know anyone homeschooling children of color (including adopted children), please pass on the information. They can either contact me directly or do a search on Yahoo groups for Austin Multicultural Homeschoolers.
Thanks!
I've also included the two upcoming meetings:
Austin Multicultural Homeschoolers
Austin Multicultural Homeschoolers is dedicated to creating a homeschool environment that will empower and nurture children of color (regardless of ethnicity, culture, or religion), support them in keeping their sense of self, self-image, and inner beauty intact, and help them build a strong foundation to be successful in a multicultural world. We understand the importance of creating a learning environment where our children are not alienated from other children of color, and a place where respect for other cultures is taught through example. Austin Multicultural Homeschoolers welcomes all children and families, regardless of “race,” religion, ethnicity, sex, gender, education, or socio-economic level who support the mission and purpose of Austin Multicultural Homeschoolers.
We agree to respect the multicultural beliefs, philosophies, religions, and parenting styles of all members. We understand that the diversity of our group will enhance the learning experience of our children.
· Weekly educational/playdate meetings. Wednesday or Thursday AM. Occasional Friday fieldtrips. Either a fieldtrip with an educational focus (nature center, nature walk, museum, play, etc.), meeting at homes with part educational focus (craft, storytime, etc.) /part playtime, or just a fun playdate (as kids learn just from the socialization!). We’ll take turns planning a week.
· Multicultural curriculum share. Since we’re in Texas, did you know that almost everything now associated with the cowboy was learned from Mexicans. Anglos came to the West herding with dogs, and Mexicans taught him almost everything about “being a cowboy.” Of course, now the country and world believe that cowboys are a truly Anglo-American thing, but it’s just another thing that was “borrowed” and claimed as their own.
· Once we get rolling, monthly mom’s out meetings. How about a spa day for us much-deserving homeschooling mommas!
· Once we’re rolling, family events from time to time.
· Any other ideas. . . Let’s have fun and be creative with this. . .!

Remember to bring your socks! This is a new place, and I like it better than any inflatable jumping placed I've visited. It usually isn't too crowded during lunch hour. I thought it might be a nice place to meet each other and talk while the kids play. There are picnic tables for food, so you may want to bring a lunch.
Wednesday, May 21 10:30 AM
Tanglewood Park: Nature Walk/Scavenger Hunt
11406 Rustic Rock Rd. Austin, TX 78750
We'll meet at the playscape, which is next to the parking lot. (The walking area is nicely shaded, but the playscape isn't.) We'll do the nature walk/scavenger hunt first, then let the kids play (or if it's especially hot, we can let them play first and then do the walk/scavenger hunt)
Hi Alex, thanks for writing. I enjoy reading your comments. I am basically in my own world have not socialize with any other adult homeschooler, due to work, husband work from home. Hope to meet up someday. My daughter is 15 and son is 9.
