How long have you been homeschooling?
This is our first year as "official" homeschoolers, but we have always supplemented and provided enrichment opportunities inside and outside of the home.
How many children are your homeschooling?
I am homeschooling an only child, male-age 10 and he is my brilliant SUN and I am also homeschooling my young prodigal nephew-age 2 on a part-time basis (1-2 days a week).
What is your best homeschooling advice for newbie home educators? Or, if you are a newbie homeschooler, what would you most like to learn about homeschooling?
I would like to learn how others deal with the unique challenges of homeschooling an only child and boys also.
About Me:
"WHEN I DISCOVER WHO I AM, I'LL BE FREE!" ~Ralph Ellison~

WHO AM I?
I am tragically flawed and full of contradictions!

"Only by learning to live in harmony with your contradictions can you keep it all afloat."
~Audre Lorde~

The Ten Commitments of the Warrior Method

I always tell my students that Malcolm X came both to his spirituality and to his consciousness as a thinker when he had solitude to read. Unfortunately, tragically, like so many young black males, that solitude only came in prison.

The Ten Commitments of the Warrior Method

1. Maintain a strong commitment to educating black boys.

2. Possess a deep and abiding knowledge of global black history.

3. Read at least 30 minutes a day on African/African American culture and life.

4. Be comfortable in predominately black environments.

5. Attend African-centered religious institutions.

6. Volunteer at least five hours a month in a human service activity that engages black boys.

7. Understand all bureaucracies that impact black boys.

8. Organize against environments oppressive of black boys.

9. Read the following five books: Beloved, Yurugu, The Miseducation of the Negro, There is a River and The Art of War.

10. Teach at least two people a month about the Ten Commitments.

Excerpted from the book The Warrior Method: A Parents' Guide to Rearing Healthy Black Boys by, Raymond A. Winbush, Ph.D.

"The so-called modern education, with all its defects, however, does others so much more good than it does the Negro, because it has been worked out in conformity to the needs of those who have enslaved and oppressed weaker peoples."
~Dr. Carter G. Woodson~ [The Mis-education of the Negro]

I'm sending this to all on my list of friends. Just another little way to make some extra cash for us Moms. :-)

I thought that you may be interested in this!

Help make money by having people sign up under you. They have all the stores like Target, Khols, Baby phat, Calvin Klien, Drug stores, Home depot. They send you a rebate check at the first of the month. Go see what I'm talking about. Watch the video on my link.

Oh and the sign up is 100% free all you have to do is buy one thing from your mall each month to keep it activated. You can have as many as 1000 people under you. You make money off of what people buy in there stores through rebate checks.
