I am a teacher, with three children between the ages of 11 months and seven years of age. My son was recently diagnosed with ADHD, he is extremely bright and tests way above average for his grade level. Although he has an IEP (after several years of battling with LA unified) he was pretty much denied services because he attended a private school. Even with the private education he was still not being challenged, which led to behavioral issues in the classroom, due to boredom. My middle daughter--age 4, is also very bright, yet I feel that she could be more prepared for kindergarten. After several struggles and battles, dealing with both private and public charter schools I decided to home school my children. They are really enjoying this experience and I clearly see the benefits. Although I worried about leaving work to be a stay at home mom again, I find it very fulfilling this time around. I have the peace of mind in knowing that my children are receiving a well-balanced education and that I can spend time with them, instead of being too busy with work. So, that is my story in a nutshell. My goal is to join or begin a home school group for southern california residents, in order to network with other families for play dates, park days, field-trips, etc.

Since you are a teacher by profession I'm sure I'll have some questions for you. Until then stay positive and focused.
