Also how old is your child? What grade? What kinds of questions do you have on schooling an only child?
My problem in the beginning was figuring out what to teach..but NY has requirements on the basics that need to be taught and you can find things that your child "should" know on a certain grade levels. I follow it loosely because I usually go a little beyond that but that's just me. I also teach things of course that are not on the list like African American history. Delete Comment
Have you looked at the Homeschool Legal Defense Association page? this is the page I was given to find out NY States homeschooling requirements. Grades 1-6 900 hours are required per year. 6-12 990 hours are required. Check it out http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp?State=NY
Hi Learner, I see you're still considering homeschooling. I'm in NY too. Do you have questions about the requirements or are you still wondering if you can handle it? I started homeschooling 6 weeks after school started. If you have any questions or doubts talk about it. Maybe I can help, as I had a ton of doubts as well. Good luck on your decision and journey.

I'm in queens,NY. I will begin homeschooling my 7yr old in the fall and my 9yr old sometime after.
I'm interested in meeting other homeschoolers in my area with children of a similar age for field trips and other social activities.
